NORFOLK -- The last ship of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group came home Wednesday morning.

USS Mason pulled into Naval Station Norfolk, much to the happiness of waiting family and friends.

'This is the best day ever. It's the best thing ever. We've waited six months and now they're here and it's going to be great,' said Peggy Cruz.

The crew of the guided missile destroyed supported maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

'We were in the Gulf of Aden and we were patrolling a busy waterway and making sure the merchant shipping was able to get through safely,' explainedCDRAdan Cruz.

Many of the sailors became fathers during the deployment and were anxious to get off the ship to hold their new babies.
