NEWPORT NEWS -- Police have made an arrest in a deadly overnight shooting in the Magnuson Hotel parking lot on Saturday.

According to a press release from police, officers were working extra duty at a nearby event for a party. Around 2 a.m. the officers heard gunshots and notified dispatchers about a possible shooting in the 1000 block of Omni Boulevard.

Two male gunshot victims were located in the hotel parking lot.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and transported one of the victims to a hospital with injuries considered non-life threatening. The second victim, Victor Rasheem Russel, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, Matthew O'Neil Allen, was treated for minor injuries to his face and head. O'Neil has been cahrged with one count of murder and malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Initial reports indicate that an argument took place during a party inside the hotel and then continued in the parking lot.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
