PORTSMOUTH-- The Coast Guard medevaced a 57-year-old woman Wednesday from a cruise ship 80 miles east of Norfolk.

A crewmember of the Carnival Splendor, a 950-foot cruise ship, contacted the Coast Guard around 10:45 a.m., reporting the woman needed medical assistance.

An MH-60 Jayhawk from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City flew to the ship, got the woman aboard and flew her to Sentara Norfolk General for treatment.
