RALEIGH -- The possibility of winter weather hitting North Carolina's coast Tuesday was slim, but crews along the Outer Banks were responding to another element - wind.

N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews were on N.C. 12 in Dare County pushing sand out of the road, making sure all lanes are open for travel.

According to NCDOT, in the event winter weather does make its way to the area, maintenance crews are on standby and will have equipment ready.
