CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. -- A Corolla Ocean Rescue vehicle was found abandoned in the surf over the week, but authorities aren't sure how it got there.
Law enforcement officials received a 911 call reporting that the Nissan Titan was being overtaken by waves around 8 a.m. Saturday.
The truck was located on the beach in an area that is off limits to vehicles, according to Currituck Sheriff Susan Johnson.
Johnson says the vehicle had been submerged in the water for awhile and equipment inside the truck had been destroyed.
The Outer Banks Voice reports the vehicle was being used Friday night to shuttle guests to and from a private party north of Corolla.
The vehicle is not owned by the county and the person driving it was not a county employee, officials said.
