PORTSMOUTH -- Detectives in Portsmouth are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who burglarized the site of the old Cradock High School Friday morning.
Officers were called to the 4300 block of George Washington Highway around 11 a.m., to investigate a burglary at the location, according to Portsmouth police spokesperson Misty Holley.
When officers arrived on scene, they met with a concerned citizen who told them that a man had been taking metal and copper piping from the location; loading it into a black Chevrolet pick-up truck and driving off.
The witness managed to snap a picture of the suspect using a cell phone.
Upon investigation, police found that metal materials appeared to have been staged at the exit door to be removed from the building, Holley said. They then confirmed that no one had permission to be inside the premises or to remove anything from its structure.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, approximately 5'11', with brown eyes and black hair. He also had a beard and mustache.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black and red baseball cap and black shirt.
