SUFFOLK- Bear sightings are on the rise in Suffolk neighborhoods. Three were spotted Wednesday morning and wildlife officials were able to capture one of the animals.

The first sighting took place on the 6000 block of Old College Drive at 7:30 a.m. It was later determined that there were actually two bears in the area, one of which was a cub. They both eventually returned to a wooded area.

Another bear was spotted at 11 a.m. in the College Square neighborhood. It was in a tree on the 5900 block of Bradford Drive and appeared to be injured. Several Suffolk Police Officers, an Animal Control Officer and two biologists from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries arrived at the scene shortly after. Using a tranquilizer, they safely removed the young, male bear from the tree at 2 p.m.

The bear is now in the care of the two biologists.
