VIRGINIA BEACH It's been nine days since an elderly Virginia Beach couple was found dead in their home.

The medical examiner says Eugene McNeely, 80, and his wife Mary, 84, died from blunt force trauma to the head and torso.

No one has been charged with killing the couple in their West Colonial Avenue home.

Their daughter Betty Dorsey told 13News she got worried when her mother didn't return any of her calls. She says she went to check on them and, looking through a window, saw her mother on the floor.

A search warrant filed in Virginia Beach courts says Mrs. McNeely's grandson 'snatched the phone out of her hand, accusing her of talking about him behind his back. The phone number disconnected,' on the day before she was found dead.

That call, around 1:00 p.m. on July 4, was the last time family would hear her voice.

According to the warrant, a family member got called by the grandson, Donta Brown, around 3:00 a.m. on July 5, saying 'he was leaving town suddenly, he had a plane to catch.'

During the investigation, police got a tip that someone of interest was at an Oceanfront hotel. So, around 11:30 p.m., officers found Brown at the Palm Grove Hotel and Suites and executed a search warrant for the room. The warrant states authorities believed evidence from the murders would be present in that hotel room.

Brown was arrested on unrelated drug charges and has not been charged with his grandparents' murders.

According to court documents, Brown told police he hadn't been at the McNeely's house since July 1, but a 911 database search found Brown had called 911 on July 2 and 3 from their home.

The couple's son, Elton McNeely was at sea when his parents died.

'They couldn't hurt a squirrel, and it's so shocking and it's so depressing to see that two wonderful, generous people had to go out like that,' said Elton.
