NORFOLK -- Tuesday is demolition day for seven apartment buildings in the Denby Park section of Norfolk.
The City spent more than $2.6 million to acquire property in Wards Corner neighborhood as another step to eliminate crime in the Wards Corner area.
'Everyone moved out either on their own or with assistance by December 1,' spokeswoman Lori Crouch told WVEC.com. 'Those who asked for assistance were moved to higher quality, equally affordable housing.'
Numbers 316, 320, 324, 336, 340, 360 and 362 San Antonio Boulevard will be razed. In all, 68 apartments in seven buildings and the grounds have been purchased.
In announcing the purchase last year, City officials said it continued the program 'to build safe, healthy neighborhoods that will sustain future generations.'
The City has said the property will be converted into open space.
Mayor Paul Fraim and other leaders will be on hand for the 11:00 a.m. ceremony.
