PORTSMOUTH - Six of 10Chihuahuas brought to the Portsmouth Humane Society from Knoxville, Tennessee were adopted a few hours after the shelter opened Wednesday.

By 11:30 a.m.,people were in line waiting for the shelter's noon opening.

Volunteers drove to Tennessee Sunday night to pick up thesenior dogs seized from a hoarding situation by the ASPCA, officials stated.

The dogs were named for country music stars - Toby Keith, Reba, Shaina, Garth, Diamond Rio and more, but owners were free to change the names.

Alan Hollingsworth was among those deciding whether to take one home.

'We have a Chihuahua at home and thought we might adopt one to keep him company,' he said.

The dogs are 10 years old or older, are up to date on shots and have been spayed/neutered. The adoptin fee is $100.

'These animals came from a rough situation with remarkable grace. I'm happy to know they will get to enjoy life from now on,' said Diane Robinson of the ASPCA.

This is the second round of Chihuahuas brought to the Portsmouth Humane Society for adoption. Last month, 18 dogs from the overcrowded Pasadena Animal Control and SPCA, made their way to Portsmouth and were adopted. So officials hope for the same result this time.
