VIRGINIA BEACH - For more than five hours, Va. Beach Police worked to get a man with a gun to leave his home.

Police were called to the 800 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Monday after getting a panic alarm call from a man who said he was being held against his will.

Officers knew who they were dealing with, said spokeswoman Tonya Borman, who said he wouldn't leave and fired one shot into the ceiling.

The SWAT team was called and around 5:15 a.m., people nearby in the Birdneck neighborhood heard 'booms,' which was the team making its way through the fortified exterior, Borman explained.

They found the man alone and wasn't hurt.

The case remains under investigation and officers had left the scene by 6:15 a.m.
