YORK COUNTY -- A 51-year-old Newport News man has been banned from the Yorktown Beach area after authorities say they received multiple complaints that he was taking surreptitious pictures of young girls in bathing suits.

According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, deputies spoke with the man after receiving the first complaint. They say he denied taking pictures and said he was at the beach with his wife and daughter.

Authorities say several more complaints were received a short time later. A different deputy went to speak with the man and he allegedly tried to conceal his camera and denied taking pictures or making the previous statement about his wife and daughter.

After the man refused to allow deputies to view his photos, he was ordered to leave the beach.

Police say similar reports were made against the man in 2012 and 2013.

Authorities say the man was mailed a certified letter banning him from county property at the Yorktown Waterfront, including the beach.
