VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Beach will stage a simulated hazardous materials incident Wednesday in the Ocean Lakes neighborhood to test its emergency response systems.

Officials stress the simulated chemical leak will pose no danger to the public and is for training purposes only.

The drill will include a simulated accident involving a car and a tanker at Firefall Drive and Schumann Drive, near Ocean Lakes High School.

Officials say the tanker will be filled with water -- not hazardous chemicals.

Several city agencies fire, police, rescue and schools will take part in the exercise, as well as the Hampton Roads Sanitation District.

Traffic should not be affected by the exercise. The drill is expected to last from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information, contact Erin Sutton, the city's deputy director of emergency management, at (757) 385-1076 or eesutton@vbgov.com.
