NORFOLK Norfolk council members will discuss the future of The Waterside Festival Marketplace Monday afternoon.

Council is at a two-day retreat in Smithfield.

The city has done studies on what should be done with the waterfront property that was the crown jewel of downtown redevelopment.

The Virginian Pilot earlier this month reported that City Manager Marcus Jones thinks the city should no longer run the nearly 30-year-old development and, this fall, will ask private companies to submit bids this fall.

The Waterside Festival Marketplace opened in 1983 and was the catalyst for redeveloping downtown.
