NEWPORT NEWS-- Police say they've caught three men who stole items from five Newport News homes.

18-year-old Cory Lucker, 19-year-old David Robbins and 21-year-old Cole Miller were arrested early on June 4 for tampering with a vehicle on Windemere Road, police spokeswoman Holly McPherson told WVEC.com.

'During the course of the investigation, stolen property, like ladders and lawn equipment, was recovered from Robbins' vehicle and the backyard of his residence,' she stated.

Police say the items had been left outside and/or stored on trucks in the North end of the city and some victims didn't know their items were missing.

The three are each charged with tampering with auto, 3 counts of grand larceny, 3 counts of conspiracy to commit larceny, and 2 counts of petit larceny.

Authorities suggest that homeowners put away lawn equipment and do what they can to secure items on vehicles as a deterrent to crime.
