NEWPORT NEWS -- On August 19 around 3:20 P.M., a man robbed the Family Dollar at 5051 Jefferson Avenue.

Police believe the man is responsible for nine other robberies in Newport News and may have robbed stores in Hampton.

In Sunday's robbery, he walked in with a gun, stood near the drink machines and ordered the manager to bring him cash. He also ordered customers to an area of the store where he could watch them, said police spokesman Harold Eley.

After getting money, he told everyone to go to the back of the store and he left out the front door.

The robber is black, 5'7' to 5'8' tall, has a husky build and was wearing sunglasses, a horizontal striped shirt,a black hooded sweat shirt and what appeared to be a fake facial hair.

Hampton Police tell WVEC.com they're investigating nine robberies this year that could be linked to the same man. In each incident, the suspect also had on fake facial hair.

If you know anything about the man or recent robberies, call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
