CHESAPEAKE-- Police say a suspicious device, believed to be a pipe bomb, was found in a Chesapeake neighborhood on Sunday.
The device was discovered in the front yard of a home in the 3400 block of Saint Clair Drive shortly after 10 a.m. About a dozen homes in the Western Branch neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution.
The State Police Bomb Squad rendered the device safe around 12:30 p.m. and residents were able to return to their homes shortly thereafter.
Investigators say that there were no injuries. Chesapeake Fire Marshal's office is investigating.
Capt. Scott Saunders told WVEC.com Monday that testing is underway to determine whether the device was an actual explosive.
