NORFOLK - More than 250 sailors left Naval Station Norfolk Friday for duty in the 5th Fleet area of operation.

The crew of the guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez will be gone eight months conducting maritime operations after relieving USS Oscar Austin.

The U.S. Fifth Fleet is responsible for naval forces in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and coast off East Africa.

The ship is led by Cmdr. Chris H. Inskeep and has a crew of approximately 276.
