NORFOLK - A driver who authorities say hit speeds of 100MPH as he led police on a pursuit from Chesapeake into Norfolk is facing several charges.

31-year-old Khalif Baucom of Virginia Beach is in jail, charged with reckless driving, driving while suspended, felony eluding, two counts of felony hit and run, and two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer.

Baucom was caught speeding on I-64 near Battlefield Blvd. around 11:00 a.m., said spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

A pursuit started when the trooper tried to pull over the Ford SUV. Anaya says Baucom went into the HOV lanes and got off at Granby Street, hitting two State Police vehicles. He got out from his vehicle and jumped over the Mason Creek Bridge, got to shore and then tried to escape across Granby Street. Waiting officers caught him near two houses.

Baucom was taken to the hospital for treatment and then taken to the Chesapeake City Jail.

None of the State Troopers was hurt.
