VIRGINIA BEACH-- Animal control officers were investigating a case of animal abuse Thursday night.

Around 7:26 a.m., officers received a call from a man who said he found a dog in a burlap bag at the recycling bins located in the 2500 Block of George Mason Drive, near the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.

Upon arrival, an officer found an elderly, female Boston terrier suffering from an apparent head wound. The officer took the dog to a local emergency veterinary clinic where the dog had to be euthanized.

The body of the dog was then taken to the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Animal contol has determined that the ten to thirteen year old dog was suffering from a traumatic head injury and was extremely skinny. It was also suffering from a bad flea infestation. The dog had one of its eyes surgically removed at some point in the past.

Anyone with information is asked to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
