NEWPORT NEWS--Crews responded to a potential hazardous materials incident in a city trash truck in the Hidenwood Section of Newport News around noon.

According to Newport News fire officials, crews found what appeared to be a small amount of white smoke coming from the trash truck. The immediate area was cordoned off and the trash was emptied onto the street.

After several readings, no hazardous materials were detected, officials said.

The scene was turned over to the Solid Waste Department to clean up the debris.
