NEWPORT NEWS -- Eight people have been displaced after their Newport News home caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to he home in the 2000 Block of Marshall Avenue around 2:30 p.m.

Fire officials say most of the damage was confined to the kitchen, but Newport News Codes and Compliance condemned the home.

Five adults and three children have been displaced due to the fire. The American Red Cross was notified, although it was unclear whether the family would require assistance.

No one was injured in the fire.

The fire is believed to be accidental.
