NORFOLK -- A Gloucester County man has man reasons to celebrate after winning a million-dollar prize in the Virginia Lottery's Winner Take All Scratcher game.

Flabbergasted does not begin to describe how Dennis Farmer says he felt when he realized he'd won.

'I scratched the first two lines and didn't win anything,' said Farmer. 'When I scratched the retailer code near the bottom of the ticket, I thought I had won only $10.'

When he handed the ticket to his girlfriend, she thought he had won $10,000. They soon discovered the ticket was actually worth the top prize of $1 million.

The excitement all happened at the 7-Eleven in the 3900 block of George Washington Highway in Hayes.

'I've been playing the Lottery since it started, but never won anything of this size,' Farmer said.

The shipyard worker had the option of taking the full $1 million prize over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $537,393 before taxes. He chose the cash option.

Farmer says he's already has plans for how he's going to spend his winnings. 'I want to pay some bills, purchase a new vehicle, and then try to do a little something fun.'
