HAMPTON -- Investigators determined that a fire inside a condominium complex was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

Crews were alerted to a possible fire around 11:45 a.m. on Saturday in the 100 block of Lantana Lane.

A spokesperson with the fire department advised that the smoking materials were disposed of in a flowerbed which then caught fire. Flames then spread up the outside of the building.

The first floor unit window had to be boarded up after crews were able to put out the flames.

At least two units suffered exterior damaged, but the units have been declared safe for living.

No one was injured.
