CHESAPEAKE -- Firefighters battled a fire at a Chesapeake metal recycling plant Wednesday night.

Crews responded to the incident at Simms Recycling in the 4300 block of Buell Street just before 7 p.m., according to Chesapeake Battalion Chief Mike Thibeault.

Flames and smoke were seen coming from a conveyor belt when crews arrived on scene. Firefighters managed to knock down the blaze within about 30 minutes, Thibeault said. Nobody was injured during the ordeal.

It is unclear what sparked the fire. An investigation is underway.
