7/10 UPDATE: The male driver of the motorcycle died from his injuries Wednesday night, according to city spokesperson Holly McPherson.
The victim has been identified as Francis Henry Kroll, 54, of Newport News.
Charges are still pending against the female driver, McPherson.
NEWPORT NEWS -- A portion of Jefferson Avenue in Newport News was shut down Monday morning following an accident involving a motorcyclist.
Emergency personnel received the call near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and 74th Street just after 6 a.m, according to Newport News police spokesperson Holly McPherson.
Investigators say that's when the female driver of a white 2003 Pontiac Grand Am blew through a red light and struck a male motorcyclist who was attempting to make a left turn onto Jefferson Avenue.
Both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated, McPherson said. The motorcyclist is believed to have suffered serious injuries.
It is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. An investigation is now underway.
