HAMPTON ROADS -- Numerous viewers reported hearing a loud boom on Wednesday, but it's unclear what was responsible for the noise.

The reports came mostly from Newport News.

Newport News Police Department spokesperson Lou Thurston was not certain where the noise came from, but he said the airport is in the Oyster Point area and it could be some type of operation there.

Officials from Langley Air Force Base say the F-22 Raptors were flying today but they don't think the noise came from them.

13News meteorologist Jeff Lawson said it was not from lightning.

There was an earthquake centered near Louisa, Virginia about 9:00 a.m. but it was a 2.0 and Lawson said it was not related.
