RICHMOND, VA.-- A Virginia state trooper was killed after being hit by an SUV on Friday night.
Authorities say Trooper Andrew D. Fox was assigned to Pulaski County, but was on special assignment to direct traffic coming from the state fair. A female driver in a 1992 Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on Route 30 in Hanover County when her vehicle struck Trooper Fox. Fox was taken to VCU medical center where he died from his injuries.
In a statement released on Saturday, state police Sgt. Thomas Molnar said that two people in the SUV were not hurt. Authorities are still investigating the Friday night crash. Molnar says the trooper was wearing a traffic safety vest and that a traffic signal was flashing yellow to help troopers direct traffic.
Officials have confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and charges are pending against the driver of the jeep.
