VIRGINIA BEACH-- Three people have been charged with operating an illegal tattoo establishment and having no business license in Virginia Beach.

Police say 22-year-old Richard Stokes of Norfolk, 32-year-old Abrahaman Muhammad and 23-year-old Karenza Trotter of Virginia Beach are facing the misdemeanor charges.

The tattoo artists allegedly used social Internet sites to solicit customers and offered discounted tattoos out of their homes.

According to police, the tattoo industry is a strictly regulated industry which requires the use of sterile needles and taking other sterilization measures for health concerns.

These cases remain under investigation.
