HAMPTON-With the start of the Christmas shopping season, Hampton Police will be out in force to keep you safe.

Increased patrols begin Friday, November 23, said Cpl. Jason Price.

You can do your part to reduce the chance of being robbed while you're in and out of stores in the city.

SAFE SHOPPING TIPS:
Avoid going out after dark
Shop with a friend if possible
Carry only the cash and credit cards you'll need
Try to park in a well-lit area and lock car doors and windows, even when you're driving
Avoid carrying lots of packages at one time so you can see what's going on around you
Put packages in the car trunk so they aren't visible to thieve
Keep track of your purse/wallet, especially in a crowd
Report a crime by calling the police at 727-6111 or Emergency 911
