NORFOLK-The Colonial Athletic Association leading Northeastern Huskies defeated the Monarchs of Old Dominion Saturday afternoon, 79-74 in overtime at the Constant Center. Red-shirt sophomore Dimitri Batten led ODU with a career high 25 points (had 23 vs. UVA in December), followed by senior forward DeShawn Painter with 15 points and a career high 16 rebounds, while Joel smith scored 27 for the Huskies.

The Monarchs sent the contest into overtime when senior forward DeShawn Painter scored on a layupfrom a pass by freshman Aaron Bacote with 0.3 seconds remaining in regulation at 66-66.

Northeastern led by as many as seven in the second half, 46-39 with 12:13 left. An Aaron Bacote layup tied the contest at 47-47 with 8:55 remaining.There would be four more ties before the overtime. The Monarchs led by as much as four 51-47 after a layup by red-shirt senior Nick Wright, but Northeastern rallied to tied the game at 55-55 with 4:34 left on a Joel Smith jumper, then Quincy Ford put the Huskies Back up three, 3:57 at 58-55.

Northeastern led by one, 65-64 with six seconds remaining when Joel Smith hit one of two free throws which set up the Monarchs game-tying basket by Painter.

In the overtime, Donte Hill scored to put ODU up, 68-66, but Jonathan Lee came right back and naileda three-pointer for a 69-68 lead.After an ODU miss, David Walker hit two free throws for a 71-68 lead, from there the Huskies, who lead the CAA in free throw percentage would finish the extra period going 10-for-10 from the line.

Northeastern had four players in double figures led by Smith with 27, Jonathan Lee with 19, QuincyFord with 13 and David Walker with 11.Besides Batten's 25, Painter added 15 and Nick Wright came off the bench to score 10.

ODU dominated the boards, 48-35 led by Painters 16, Donte Hill's eight with Keenan Palmore and Nick Wright with six each.Quicny ford and Reggie Spencer led Northeastern with eight each.

Aaron Bacote led the Monarchs with five assists, while Palmore came up with three steals and three assists. ODU shot .403 (31-77) while NU was .418 (23-55).The Huskies were 25-29 (.862) from the free throw line.
