VIRGINIA BEACH-Saturday make-up days could be scrapped if one Va. Beach School Board member gets his way.

Angry parents and students signed petitions, sent letters and emails and made calls to complain about Feb. 15, March 29 and April 26 being designated as make up days for the January snow storm.

School officials knew it wasn't going to be a popular decision when it was announced

Joel McDonald is drafting a resolution to cancel the remaining make-ups and revisit next year's calendar to allow flexibility for closures.

Friday, teachers requested an end to Saturday school and asked that the Board come up with a better plan for dealing with missed days.

Monday, school officials are expected to release data on how many students attended the first Saturday make-up day.

At Tuesday's board meeting, members will discuss the idea.The Board will vote on the plan to cancel the remaining Saturday classes on March 4.

If Beach students have another day off due to inclement weather, the makeup day will be Memorial Day.
