CHESAPEAKE -- Police are investigating a rash of car break-ins in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. The thieves are stealing many items including purses and laptops.

Recently, at least four vehicles have been targeted. Police say the criminals are mostly hitting parking lots of gyms and athletic fields, and this fits the descriptions of at least 16 other cases since February.

Sean Lynch plays kickball near Indian River Middle School every week. After a break-in the week before, he made to take extra precautions with his girlfriend's purse.

'I took her purse from her and actually put it in the trunk,' explained Lynch. 'So the only way anybody would have known where it was if they saw me do it.'

When Lynch returned to his car after the game, his back window was smashed and the purse was gone.

'I was beyond mad, beyond nervous. I just didn't know what to do,' he said.

Police are continuing to investigate. If you have any information that could help solve these cases, call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward.
