HAMPTON - Fires early Friday damaged homes in Hampton and Chesapeake.

No one was home when Hampton firefighters arrived on Mason Street around 1:00 a.m. Officials say the fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes, but the home was badly damaged.

Around 1:40 a.m. in Chesapeake, fire broke out in the attached garage of a home on Mount Pleasant Road .

Officials say the smoke detector alerted the two people in the home to the fire. They got out and are now staying with family.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fires.
