SUFFOLK--Suffolk Fire and Rescue has named a new chief to take the helm beginning April 2.

Cedric Scott is currently the Assistant Fire Chief of Logistics for Savannah Fire and Emergency Services in Georgia and is responsible for fire inspections, investigations, finance, safety and wellness, fleet maintenance, facilities, supply, fire support staff, and training.

According to a release from the City of Suffolk, Scott was named Fireman of the Year in 1995 and was awarded the Bibb County 4-H Distinguished Service Citation. He is also a paramedic and was recognized as a Star of Life by the American Ambulance Association in 2001.

Suffolk also says Scott also has an extensive education background in fire science.

Suffolk City Manager Selena Cuffee-Glenn says they are looking forward to Scott taking the top leadership position. 'His priority for the Fire Department and the citizens of Suffolk will be to provide excellent public safety and emergency services,' said Cuffee-Glenn.
