VIRGINIA BEACH -- Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire at a horse farm in Virginia Beach Thursday night.

Crews received the call in the 3100 block of West Neck Road around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Flames and smoke were seen coming from a barn when firefighters arrived on scene, according to Virginia Beach Fire Chief Tracy Freeman. All of the livestock were out of the barn and in the field at the time.

Crews managed to knock it down a short time later. The barn sustained heavy damage.

Firefighters say no one was home during the incident.

An investigation is now underway.
