PORTSMOUTH -- Coast Guard officials are warning boaters to stay off the water until Saturday and make sure you properly secure your boat to your dock.

'It's a tragedy that more people don't take these things more seriously,' Coast Guard Officer Stephen Atchley said.

Additional crews are ready to answer any calls for distress out on the water. However, authorities are hoping boaters will not venture out until the storm passes.

If the Coast Guard gets a call, officers put their lives on the line to make the rescue during a hurricane or tropical storm. Atchley believes Arthur will be dangerous.

'There will come a time where the sea conditions are so much that even i can't go out in my ship.'
