NORFOLK--Work to repair the bumpy eastbound stretch on I-264 is underway following February's pothole meltdown.

Once concrete repairs are complete, the department hopes to put down a fresh layer of asphalt on the eastbound lanes to make it one of the area's smoothest commutes.

'This is not the final outcome,' said VDOT spokesperson Brooke Grow. 'Crews across the state are looking at a much larger-scale project.'

Grow says concrete replacements are about 50 percent complete and work will continue overnight Sunday through Thursday.

Concrete repairs are expected to be complete by the summer of 2015.
