NORFOLK - Everyone has an opinion about whether the Washington Redskins should change the team name because the word Redskin is offensive to Native Americans and others.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has jumped into the debate - says don't change the name, change the logo. Of course, the Norfolk-based animal rights group has a suggestion and even has an idea for a new logo. It's a red skin potato on a white and gold plate with a bundle of herbs to replace the feather on the team helmet.
The group says the red skin potato is also native to the Americas, having been cultivated in Peru, and they're packed with nutrients, including iron, potassium, vitamin C, fiber, and even protein, and red potatoes in particular are high in antioxidants.
The group says, by keeping the name and adopting a heart-healthy, 'appeeling' logo, the team would set a powerful example on and off the field.
