NORFOLK -- It's a good way to teach your kids that little in life is free. A day off now, means a day on later.

Some schools have missed seven days due to inclement weather. The extra snow days most districts built into the calendar in anticipation of inclement weather were used.

The following school districts have announced their make-up days:

Chesapeake Public Schools will now go to school on Monday, March 31, which was previously designated as a teacher workday. They will also add 6 minutes to the end of the school day -- beginning March 17 until June 11.

Hampton City Schools officials say their make-up days will be April 21, May 23, June 12 and June 13.

Newport News Public Schools announced that student half-days set for March 7 and April 18 will now be full-days.

Norfolk Public Schools says June 12 and 13 will become full days, rather than early release days, to make up for recent snow days.

Portsmouth Public Schools board will decide on the make up day at their March 20 meeting.

The school board for Suffolk Public Schools approved the following makeup day changes to the 2013-14 calendar:

  • Tuesday, March 4 Full day for students & staff; Professional Development Day canceled
  • Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day) Full day for students & staff
  • Wednesday, June 11 will change from an early dismissal day to a full day
  • Thursday, June 12 will change from an early dismissal day to a full day
  • Friday, June 13 will change from an early dismissal day to a full day

In Virginia Beach City Public Schools, class will be in session March 29 and April 26 -each is a Saturday. For secondary students, March 29 will be a B day; and April 26 will be an A day.

They will also add 20 minutes to the end of the school day from March 31-May 8 to recoup time lost due to the March snow closures.

Isle of Wight County Schools has made the following changes:

  • March 10 -14: Elementary schools will add 5 minutes at the end of each day for a dismissal time of 3:55 pm
  • April 2: Full day for all students (No exams or early dismissal)
  • April 3: Full day for all students (Exams begin/No early dismissal)
  • April 4: Full day for all students
  • June 12 and 13 will change from an early dismissal day to a full day.

Williamsburg-James City County will now have school on April 21. Officials say they are using the day for two missed days.

York County Schools released these make-up days:

  • April 4: Full Day/Regular Dismissal
  • April 21: Full Day/Regular Dismissal
  • May 9: Full Day/Regular Dismissal
  • June 10:Full Day/Regular Dismissal: Elementary Schools, Middle Schools & York River Academy Early Dismissal Exams: Bruton, Grafton, Tabb & York High Schools
  • June 11: Full Day/Regular Dismissal: Elementary Schools, Middle Schools & York River Academy Early Dismissal Exams: Bruton, Grafton, Tabb & York High Schools
  • June 12: Full Day/Regular Dismissal: Elementary Schools, Middle Schools & York River Academy Early Dismissal Exams: Bruton, Grafton, Tabb & York High Schools

Perquimans Co., NC will now have school on Saturday, March 8.
