11:30 a.m. UPDATE: Repairs to the pipeline system are complete.
Virginia Natural Gas crews are reactivating service to customers' homes and relighting appliances when homeowners can give them access.
'Customers will need to be present to allow a Virginia Natural Gas service technician to enter their home to light and inspect the appliances and ensure it is safe to restore service,' spokesman Duane Bourne said.

3/27 4:50 a.m. UPDATE: Our crews worked through the night to make repairs to the gas line overnight and we are currently in the process of restoring service to customers, said spokesman Duane Borne.

'Our representatives will revisit each customer to turn their service back on and relight their appliance pilot lights,' he explained.

NORFOLK-- About 700 Virginia Natural Gas customers were without gas Wednesday night.

The outage was in the area of Granby Street between Willowood Drive and Filbert Street.

According to Duane Bourne with Virginia Natural Gas, the outage occurred in the afternoon and workers were investigating what caused it. Crews were expected to work into the night to restore service.

Meanwhile, representatives from Virginia Natural Gas were going door to door in the affected area to turn off their gas supplied appliances until repairs could be made.
