NORFOLK -- Join the Norfolk Tides and Ready Hampton Roads as they team up to ensure everyone is well informed as hurricane season begins June 1.

The Tides will host their annual emergency preparedness night on Saturday.

The cities of Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, along with Ready Hampton Roads, will have representatives on hand.

Videos played between innings will focus on topics like preparing a safety kit and shelters for the disabled.

'We like to use words like inclusion and integrate services when it comes to emergency shelters,' said Dawn Brantley of Ready Hampton Roads.

Getting to and from shelters has been an issue for people living with disabilities.

'We are thrilled that we convinced HRT to change their policy and allow para-transit buses to run with less than a 24-hour notice. Storms are just unpredictable,' said Cheryl Simpson of the Endependence Center for Independent Living.

Hurricane season officially begins Sunday, June 1.
