NEWPORT NEWS-A Newport News man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities found two dead dogs in his back yard.

A necrospy showed the Pit bull dogs died of heat stroke, said Animal Control officers.

Police say 19-year-old Delmonte Crawford told them the dogs were put outside during a evening party on July 3. They say he also reported feeding them and left them with water before going to work on July 4.

A neighbor that day to report seeing the dead animals in the yard on Deputy Lane in the Denbigh neighborhood.

Investigators say the dogs were tied against a door to the shed.

Crawford is charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty and was issued a summons for failing to provide the animals with adequate water and clean shelter.
