VIRGINIA BEACH---A smoother ride through the Oceanfront area could be a few years away.

The city of Virginia Beach plans to invest $20 million in local funds into a road-widening project on Pacific Avenue.

The busy summer thoroughfare will get additional sidewalks, turn lanes and a new streetscape for beach-goers and tourists.

'It gives you more space and you can occupy more,' said Virginia Beach resident Shante Stokes. 'It is full during the summer season and you see a lot more people out and about.'

The project will go out for bids early next year and is expected to be completed by 2016.
