NEWPORT NEWS - Fire destroyed a vacant house in the Denbigh section of Newport News early Tuesday.

Crews were called to the area of Warwick Blvd. and Beechmont Drive, behind a motorcycle shop on Warwick, just before 7:00 a.m. They found flames coming from the roof of the boarded-up home.

The fire was under control around 7:16 a.m., said Battalion Chief Steve Pincus, and crews searched the building to make sure no one was inside.

There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Because of the firefight, police closed Warwick Blvd. between Beechmont and Old Courthouse Way and officers rerouting traffic for about three hours.
