PASQUOTANK CO., NC -- Authorities are working to identify a body discovered in Pasquotank County, North Carolina Thursday.

According to the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office, the body was found around 11 a.m. in a ditch off Florida Road, a long, rural road with endless swamps and cornfields.

Sheriff Randy Cartwright says because deputies are looking at all missing persons and are still interviewing people, he isn't releasing much information, including whether the body was that of a man, woman or child.

'We don't want to tip our hand. We don't want anything out there where people can say 'I read about it or heard about it.' We want people to tell us because they really know what they're talking about,' he said.

The body has been sent to Greenville for an autopsy and identification. Results could be back Friday.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office at 252-338-2191 or the Crime Line at 252-335-5555.
