NORFOLK (AP) -- Chesapeake-based Dollar Tree Inc. chairman and co-founder Macon F. Brock Jr. and his wife, Joan, have donated $3 million to the Eastern Virginia Medical School.
The gift will be used to establish an interdisciplinary institute at the Norfolk school to train community-oriented physicians and health care professionals. The facility will be named the M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health in honor of Brock's father, who was a physician who volunteered at the public health center in Norfolk.
Eastern Virginia announced the donation Monday.
Macon Brock says the institute will give the school an opportunity to expand efforts to address community health issues while nurturing among students, faculty and staff a lifelong commitment to community service.
