KITTY HAWK--- As flood waters receded in Kitty Hawk Wednesday, business owners are reaching for rain boots and mops.

'As soon as we got here we had to wade through waist-deep water just to get to the museum,' said Alyssa Hannon, owner of the Kitty Hawk Children's Museum.

The museum is one of many businessesin a strip mall off U.S. 158 that wassurrounded by water.

'You have to take it day by day and one step at a time,' said Winfield Bevins from the Church of the Outer Banks. 'It's a great community down here and everyone pitches in and helps each other out.'

Bevins says oceanside flooding was as bad as he's seen, second only to Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

He and other business owners in the strip mall say they don't expect to reopen forsix weeks.
