SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY - Authorities say they discovered a marijuana grow operation inside a home in Newsoms in May and now have arrested two men.

Southampton County Sheriff's deputies say they recovered 99 marijuana plants, loose marijuana, buckets, scales, a pistol and ammunition in the Greenbriar Drive home during the May 28 search. Deputies say the street value on the plants is $297,000.

Then, around 6;45 a.m. July 17, deputies served a search warrant at 34000 Monroe Road in connection to the marijuana investigation. They arrested 28-year-old Kyle Thorpe and 27-year-old Joel Hedgepeth and say they found a copy of the search warrant left at the Greenbriar house and parts to an illegal liquor still.

Department spokesman Major Gene Drewery told WVEC.com that county records show Thorpe's father owns the Greenbriar property.
