UPDATE 1/31: Hampton Roads Transit will resume full bus and para-transit services on Saturday, Feb. 1, following three full days of work to remove snow and ice from transit centers, shelters and bus stops that were buried during a recent snow storm.

Regular Saturday bus service will begin at 4:40 a.m. Light rail and ferry service resumed two days after the storm. Restoring bus and para-transit services took longer because problems with snow and ice buildup on curbs made it difficult for customers to board and alight.

'We thank the public for its patience,' said William Harrell, president and CEO of HRT. 'We fully understand the challenges that many face when there is no transit service. The safety of our customers and operators is of paramount importance.'

UPDATE 1/30: Regional bus service will be suspended for one more day on Friday because significant amounts of snow and ice remain piled up on the curbs of streets, blocking access to buses for customers, HRT officials said.

The lack of regional service marks the third day that Hampton Roads Transit has been unable to provide the full range of its services following a huge winter storm that dumped up to 10 inches of snow in some areas of Hampton Roads.

Light rail and ferry service resumed on Thursday and will operate a normal schedule Friday.

UPDATE 1/29: Hampton Roads Transit said Wednesday it will resume regular ferry and light rail service starting Thursday, Jan. 30 but keep buses off the street for another day to allow snow clearing work to continue.

Bus stops are especially difficult for HRT customers to use with snow piled up around them.
